Little seagull pretending to be a crow
The other day, I had a visit from a little seagull that tried to blend in among the crows.
For a short while, it actually worked — it behaved completely tame and very crow-like.
But eventually the crows figured it out (or something tipped them off), and then it got chased off and had to flee.
(Don’t worry, that part has been cut out of the video.)
Later that day, we were disturbed several times by loose dogs running after the crows.
It’s a bit frustrating, because during our playtime the crows can be distracted, which means they might not notice a dog coming and could potentially get attacked.
Most of the time, I carry a sharp whistle that makes the crows take off — and sends both dogs and children running away crying.
But I was really proud of my crow friends one of those times.
They took off the moment they sensed the dog coming, and not only that — when the dog started walking toward me, barking and staring at me, the crows made a few distraction maneuvers.
They cawed loudly, flew right over the dog, and landed near it to divert its attention — and in the end, the dog retreated back to its owner.
